Casting Sessions
Casting Your Actors
...and When Your Actors Cast You
by Myrl Schreibman
....Continued
from Previous Page
For example: Arthur Penns Bonnie And Clyde has an ensemble
of Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Gene Hackman, Estelle Parsons,
Gene Wilder, Michael J. Pollard, Dub Taylor and Denver Pyle; while
Coppolas The Godfather had the acting talent of Marlon Brando,
James Caan, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, and John Cazale,
as well as the performances in the smaller roles played by actors
like Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Abe Vigoda, Talia Shire, and
Richard Conte. Can there be any doubt that the cast of Paul Haggis
Oscar-winning Crash is not made up of wonderful ensemble actors
with the names of Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Brendan
Fraser, Terrence Howard, and Ryan Phillippe among its 72 cast
members?
And, of course, ensemble casting is a priority in television.
So, it must begin with casting. Take your time. Find the right
people. Dont be in a hurry. And, be true to the story you are
telling. When you have the right set of actors, you will have
joy on the set every day.
