About the Speaker

Christopher Baffa ASC

CHRISTOPHER BAFFA, ASC (Director of Photography) has worked in the motion picture industry for 25 years, following his 1990 graduation from the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television. He began his career working primarily in the electric department before achieving his first theatrical director of photography credit in 1994.

Christopher has been quite fortunate in sharing his time between television projects and theatrical feature films. His independent films include ASHBY, starring Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolf, and Emma Roberts, THE ROAD WITHIN, with Zoe Kravitz and Dev Patel, Ryan Murphy’s RUNNING WITH SCISSORS, the film adaptation of Augusten Burroughs’ novel starring Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Gwenyth Paltrow, Brian Cox, and Joseph Fiennes. He also photographed the comedies UNACCOMPANIED MINORS, starring Lewis Black, NEXT FRIDAY starring Ice Cube, and IDLE HANDS, with Seth Green and Jessica Alba. Early in his career, Chris photographed the highly acclaimed independent film SUICIDE KINGS starring Christopher Walken, Henry Thomas, and Denis Leary.

In television, Christopher’s credits include such projects as THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, THE 4400, David Goyer’s KRYPTON, CROSSBONES, KIM POSSIBLE, and Michael Bay’s THE LAST SHIP. Prior to that, Christopher photographed the pilot and subsequent seven seasons of FX Network’s Golden Globe winning drama NIP/TUCK, the pilot and first three seasons of the multi award-winning GLEE, as well as the pilot for TNT’s THE CLOSER, starring Kyra Sedgwick, and FX’s drama AMERICAN HORROR STORY starring Jessica Lange.

Christopher was awarded Variety’s Ten Cinematographers To Watch Award in 1999, and honored with an invitation to become a member of the American Society of Cinematographers in the spring of 2007.

Christopher was married in July of 2006, and resides in Los Angeles with his wife Azita and their son Mason, and daughter Joan. In his off time, his hobbies include art collection, archaeology, and interior design study.
