Community Spotlight with Danny Elliott

Composer, Rainha, Kent, United Kingdom.

#ThrowbackThursday #TBT  Do you remember our Community Spotlight with Danny Elliott?

Danny Elliott is a composer with more than 10 years of experience. He writes, scores, arranges and orchestrates music for media outlets, such as TV, film, advertising, video games, websites, and fashion.

Background:
“Mainly movie shorts. It’s great working within that area, as everyone’s so excited about what they do and give it 110%, even when there’s little to no money involved, everyone pitches in, and will stay up all night to finish something out of pure passion and love for what they’re doing. Attitude like that is most inspiring to work with, and everyone works like a close team, even when you’re on the other side of the world!”

Current Project:
“Trying to pitch and muscle in on a [0-minute short] somewhere in the future. Hard when you’re competing against over 200 other composers, but so far it seems quite promising.”

Biggest Challenge:
“Hmmm, I would say being given an advert job about 2 weeks after buying my new setup! I didn’t have a clue how to work anything or know how to use it, and had a deadline of 10hrs!!”

Solution:
“…No sleep!!”

Technique / Tip:
“When working with music, especially with ‘orchestral’ sounds, you have to try and make it ‘sound’ sonically correct. This can sometimes mean making things deliberately ‘wrong’ on paper to make it ‘sound’ right. It’s very odd, particularly with string sounds, but you really have to experiment with the timing and length of each note. And don’t forget your EQ!!”

Favorite Tool:
“It’s a toss-up between my Vienna Sample Library programme, or I’d say Logic itself, a toughie!”
