Jason Paris, who flew from New York to attend Diane Drake's Introduction to
Screenwriting class last July, followed up his productive summer with two awards.
In September "Auto Archaeology," a project he created, hosted, and
produced, won Best TV Pilot at the Cinema City International Film Festival.
The show is about the abandoned cars that decay in woods and forests throughout
the country, and how to restore or recycle these cars to prevent ecological
damage. Then, in October, his documentary "Birthday Free for All"
won Best Experimental Documentary at the New York International Film and Video
Festival.
As for his Writers' Program class: "The experience was totally amazing!
With Diane Drake's direction and inspiration I was able to complete a lifelong
goal of writing about the last ten years of my father's life. My experience
at the UCLA Extension Writers' Program gave me the focus I needed to document
this emotional journey. Currently, the script is being read by two agencies."
