For the third consecutive year, Elizabeth Klein, a recent graduate of Electronic
Media Communications at University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College won
the Student Emmy Award from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy
of Television Arts Sciences (NATAS).
This is one of two such awards made each year by the chapter.
The unprecedented third consecutive award was earned for Elizabeth’s
capstone project, "Alice: A Mad Tea Party," completed as part of her
associate of applied science degree program in electronic media technology at
UC Raymond Walters College. This stop-motion animation project was also part
of the application portfolio Elizabeth submitted to gain acceptance this past
fall to the respected animation program at California Institute for the Arts
in Valencia, Calif.
The 46th annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards ceremony took place in Columbus,
Ohio, in late July. Also recognized in the award citation for "Alice: A
Mad Tea Party" were: R. Aaron Allen (audio engineer), David Bailey (music
composer) and the faculty of electronic media communications as advisers. Department
faculty advisers included in the citation are: H. Michael Sanders, Dave Hubble,
David Hartz, William Boyle and Eric Anderson.
Gary Anaple, director of the NATAS Student Emmy competition for the Ohio Valley
Chapter, noted in a message to e-media communications director H. Michael Sanders
that Elizabeth’s third consecutive Student Emmy was “absolutely
unprecedented.” Anaple also wrote, “The entries were particularly
strong this year. The Student Awards Committee would like to acknowledge the
excellent work by students [producing] the following… 'A Noteable Adventure'
– University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College.” The producers
of this project are current RWC eMedia students Joel Gross and Leslie McVey.
R. Aaron Allen, who shares recognition for "Alice: A Mad Tea Party"
with Elizabeth Klein, is a current student in electronic media technology at
RWC. Aaron, who did sound and effects for the animation project, has been accepted
for transfer this coming fall term into the BFA program in electronic media
at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music.
Other electronic media communications students nominated for Student Emmy Awards
this year included: Tamara Allegra-Smith, R. Aaron Allen and Daniel Sammons
Jr. for Animation & Graphics Composite, Joshua Katz for "Son of a Naked
Gun," Carrie Reynard for "Shadow Witch" and Farooq Ahmad, Tamara
