(Burbank, CA) 3ality Digital, LLC and Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp. announced
they plan to collaborate on a series of alternative 3D entertainment projects
that should arrive in theatres nationwide over the course of the next two years.
The companies, which earlier this year joined forces on the first live 3D sports
broadcast available to consumers, plan to introduce a minimum of eight projects
in the next 24 months. Strong ticket sales for their previous effort -- the
live 3D broadcast of college football's national championship game to 80 Cinedigm
theatres in 31 states -- confirmed the growing consumer demand for pixel-perfect
3D entertainment experiences.
The game between the University of Florida Gators and the University of Oklahoma
Sooners was broadcast live in 3D on Jan. 8, 2009; Cinedigm (www.cinedigm.com)
reported its partner theatres grossed more than four times the best per-screen
movie gross that evening.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to build on the success we enjoyed with
the FedEx Bowl Championship Series event," said 3ality Digital CEO Sandy
Climan. "The millions of moviegoers who have been drawn to recent animated
3D film releases will be astonished by the power of digital 3D technology to
transform live-action content as well. The various sports leagues, music producers
and other industry executives we are speaking with share our belief that digital
3D will continue to change the way people think about everyday entertainment."
3ality Digital will produce the projects and Cinedigm will distribute and market
them through its state-of-the-art CineLive(TM) satellite network. Production
will be managed by 3ality Digital professionals who are at the forefront of
the medium, having contributed not only to the BCS broadcast but also the first
live 3D broadcast of an NFL game, the first 3D commercial to air during Super
Bowl halftime (SoBe's "Lizard Lake") and the groundbreaking concert
film U2 3D.
"This series of 3D productions will create a highly immersive entertainment
option that traditional 2D fare simply can't match," said Jonathan Dern,
President of Cinedigm Entertainment Group. "Expanding our 3D content offerings
allows us to maximize the investment we have made in our industry leading digital
cinema network, and to deliver an unparalleled customer experience."
About 3ality Digital
3ality Digital develops enabling technologies to power live-action 3D entertainment
from image capture through broadcast, independent of viewing environment. 3ality
Digital's camera platforms, stereo image processing systems, and 3D image scaling
technologies are quickly earning a reputation as the "gold standard"
for the emerging medium, and are rapidly being adopted by production companies,
studios, broadcasters and consumer electronics manufacturers. To support the
growing industry, 3ality Digital launched its immersive "3D IQ" training
program to robust demand in April 2009. 3ality Digital has also participated
in a series of production firsts, including U2 3D, the first movie shot completely
in digital live-action 3D; the first live 3D broadcast of an NFL game (Raiders
vs. Chargers, Dec. 4th, 2008); the first live 3D sports broadcast available
to consumers (BCS Championship, Jan. 8th, 2009); the first 3D commercial broadcast
on television (Sobe "Lizard Lake,"); and the first episode of a scripted
television series shot in digital live-action 3D (Chuck vs. The Third Dimension,
aired on NBC on Feb. 2, 2009). For more information, please visit the company's
