Born in Massachusetts, William Donaruma grew up in Branford, Connecticut
and graduated in 1989 from the University of Notre Dame. William then
found himself at Universal Studios Florida working his way into the resident
grip/electric crew, which also afforded opportunities in stunt work on
commercials and television shows. William was then hired to be a
part of the Universal Backlot Productions department, which handled the
influx of productions shooting on the lot. This eventually led to
becoming a production manager on television shows, commercials, music
videos, and network specials.
William then left Universal and started freelancing as a key grip for
small films and special FX units in Los Angeles as well as becoming a
prominent camera operator and editor in the Orlando area. The opportunity
then came to join the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in South
Bend, IN, where he now lives with his wife (co-writer) and four children.
He teaches classes on narrative filmmaking, cinematography, acting for
the camera and HD technology. He has most recently made a series
of short films and is currently working on a feature documentary about
a boxing club and its impact on missions in Bangladesh.
