Approximately 15 directors from the four Atlantic provinces will be chosen by a jury and invited to Halifax for an intensive series of workshops, screenings and an opportunity to meet and be �inspired� by some of the best talent in the documentary field. The four-day, five-evening program will take place June 2-6, 2004.
To be eligible, the applicant must have directed at least one short documentary and not more than two long-form documentaries; have at least two credits in key positions (director, editor, cinematographer, sound recordist, writer or producer) on documentary productions; be a resident of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador; and have a passion for honing their craft to the next level. Applicants who have been chosen to participate in this program will be notified by May 1, 2004.
Workshops include: What Makes a Good Documentary and Why; Documentary Genres; Story & Film Focus; Research, Finding Characters, Interviewing & What Happens in the Field; Scripts: Writing for Documentaries; and The Creative Team: Working With Camera, Sound and Editors.
Inspired will also feature four high-profile documentary filmmakers who will be showcased along with their films at public screenings which will be followed by live director interviews in June. Screening details and dates will be announced at a later date.
At the end of the program, the selected participants will be invited to prepare formal proposals for one-hour documentaries. From these proposals, the Inspired jury will select three projects that will receive a commission from CTV and IFC to be co-produced with the NFB.
