REZN8, a world-renowned, Emmy Award-winning digital design studio, recently solved a complicated design challenge for Paramount Domestic Television s ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, the #1 syndicated entertainment newsmagazine in the world. Earlier this year, REZN8 was commissioned to update ETs graphic image while simultaneously creating a new brand identity for the shows new hit spin-off series, THE INSIDER.

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT is the industrys pioneering entertainment news magazine and the most successful program of its kind in the history of television , commented Linda Bell Blue, executive producer of ET and THE INSIDER. With the launch of THE INSIDER, a companion show that creates an hour of power in 47 markets, we had to make sure these brands worked together in unison while maintaining their own individual identities.

REZN8 kept the color palettes for both brands warm and personal, yet professional, featuring golds, amber, blues and reds. Marquee-style graphics, film reel animations, and crystal-like accents representing Hollywoods glamour and glitter, all combine to create a visually captivating experience without distracting from the actual news stories.

We used award show metaphors to create a crystal clear entertainment brand, explains Paul Sidlo, REZN8s founder and creative director. We used logos and graphics resembling jewel-like frames. We also used lens-shaped images behind the ET logo to symbolize the concept of a camera lens.

According to Sidlo, these transparent screens or crystal-like lenses showcase current features and previews, as well as todays jewels in entertainment, subliminally saying: ET isnt holding any details back. You are seeing todays hottest stars with the greatest clarity.

Based on the popular ET segment, THE INSIDER which premiered this season as the highest-rated debut of any newsmagazine in syndication since 1996 reports on the world of celebrity from a unique insider perspective, using first-person interviews, special inside access, behind-closed-door reports, and inside information from knowledgeable informed sources and contacts. The new graphics for the show use even warmer colors to signify that intimacy with the topics, entertainers, and viewers.

To emphasize the in-depth news coverage that goes beyond headline news, REZN8 incorporated the imagery of the electronic printing press and print rollers -- abstract concepts more commonly associated with investigative newspaper reporting.

Because the two shows are often aired consecutively, we created the graphics so that viewers can be taken seamlessly from one show to the next sort of a continuation, says Sidlo. We maintained two separate identities to appeal to the markets they reach, yet drew upon the reputation for solid programming that ET has built over the years.

To accomplish the 4-month project, Sidlo and studio producer, Ileana Garcia-Montes, headed up a team of six first-rate designer/animators, including David Necker, Mannix, Tony Vasquez, Juowei Lee, Angela King, and Peter Smith.
