'Villisca' Mystery Official Selection at Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival Rundles Win IDA 'Documentary Dream Package'

The critically acclaimed documentary “Villisca: Living with a Mystery,” by filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle, is an official selection for the upcoming Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. “Villisca” will screen on Friday, April 7, 2006 at 8:00pm and on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 10:30am at the Collins Road Theatres in Marion, Iowa.

The Cedar Rapids event will be the second film festival for “Villisca.” The film had a successful 49-city theatrical release over 14-months that qualified it for the Academy Award competition in the documentary feature category. The film explores the still-unsolved 1912 Villisca, Iowa axe murder mystery, and the resulting chaos and division that is still haunting the small rural community.

“Villisca: Living with a Mystery” is available on a full-featured DVD at over 60 retail and video rental stores, and at Amazon.com and VilliscaMovie.com.

The Rundles are the owners of Fourth Wall Films, an independent film and video production company in Los Angeles. They are currently in production on “Lost Nation: The Ioway,” a documentary exploring Iowa’s original Native American inhabitants, the gradual loss of their ancestral lands, and dissolution of their unique culture. “Lost Nation” will premiere in Des Moines at the State Historical Society of Iowa in October 2007.

In another development, the Rundles have won the International Documentary Association’s annual “Documentary Dream Package” Award, that they will use to begin production on “The Storm, The Whirlwind, The Earthquake: Frederick Douglass.”

The Rundles have cast Los Angeles actor Mark Winn to play Douglass onscreen. Winn has previously worked for Steven Spielberg and James Cameron, and has been featured in dramas and documentaries on CBS, ABC, and the Discovery Channel in addition to his numerous live theater performances.

The “Dream Package” consists of a 30-day camera equipment rental from Arriflex, 16mm film from Kodak, processing by Foto-Kem Industries, Inc., a 12-hour telecine transfer at Laser Pacific Media Corporation, and a copy of Production Studio software courtesy of Adobe Systems, Inc. The $30,000 package is handed out yearly as part of the IDA Awards.
