Based on the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, Columbia Pictures’ Eat, Pray, Love tells the story of a woman’s round-the-world journey of self discovery. The film is on Stage H of Kaufman Astoria Studios with Ryan Murphy (Running With Scissors, “Nip/Tuck”) in the director’s chair. Lyn Pinezich is also back at KAS to work on the production. Produced by Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner of Plan B Productions, the release date is slated for 2011. Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovitch) will portray Gilbert, while Javier Bardem (Vicky, Christina, Barcelona) will play her love interest Felippe. Richard Jenkins (Burn After Reading) also co-stars.

The screenplay, which was adapted by Murphy, faithfully follows the memoir. While trying to get pregnant in the mundane suburbs with her husband, Gilbert realizes that she needs to drastically alter her life. After the resulting painful divorce, the strong woman embarks on a yearlong adventure that encompasses three major stops. In accordance with the title, she visits Rome, for its culinary delights, an ashram outside of Mumbai, for spiritual guidance, and Bali, for personal pleasure and balance.
