Workshop dates: February 6 - February 10, 2013

Capturing winter sports and outdoor events presents logistical, physical and camera operator challenges, as well as opportunities that are not considerations in temperature friendly and controlled environments. To be able to effectively plan, shoot and edit winter sports and events is a skill that will greatly increase opportunities for producers, cinematographers and anyone interested in doing film production in cold and often unforgiving environments. The class will conduct preproduction, production and edit pieces shot at the Camden Snow Bowl during the Toboggan Nationals Week, an event that draws people to Maine from all over the world.

Using the Canon’s DSLR’s like the 5D, Canon XF300 HD Video Cameras and the Go Pro. Students cover the Toboggan Nationals, including interviews and the colorful characters and events of the “midway” that comes to life around the race. In addition, students shoot winter sports such as snowboarding, skiing, and ice-skating using both static and moving cameras. Safety for all class participants will be of the first priority as it is when shooting any production in uncontrolled environments. Participants in this class should be prepared to work in cold and unpredictable weather and be physically able to walk and work in snow. Proper winter attire will be mandatory. The ability to ski or ice skate is also helpful but not mandatory to take the class.

Tuition includes the following: Breakfast, Feb. 6, 7 and 8; Lunch, Feb. 6 and 7. All other meals are on your own.
