(Wilmington, NC) - Come one, come all to the 18th annual Cucalorus Film Festival. Cucalorus seeks submissions from filmmakers, video artists and choreographers for the upcoming festival, held in historic Wilmington, NC, November 8-11, 2012. Cucalorus, a free-spirited and multidisciplinary showcase, screens an eclectic collection of independent and international films with special programs on North Carolina, social justice, music videos and dance.

The progressive southern film festival is a non-competitive showcase of features, shorts and documentaries from around the world. The festival, which screens more than 150 works each year from at least 20 different countries, has been called a "breeding ground for artistic appreciation and good times alike" by MOVIEMAKER magazine.

"In a world where product is king, Cucalorus has figured out a way to keep its experience as pure and glorious as the moviemaking process itself," said Bob Hardison, co-producer and co-star of Angry White Man, a "Southern Comedy," which screened at Cucalorus in 2011.

In addition to feisty and furry films, this year's monster-themed festival will include Dance-a-lorus, a live performance featuring collaborations between choreographers and filmmakers. Visual Soundwalls will expand to become the festival's experimental venue, with daily programs featuring music videos and interactive works on film. This year's North Carolina retrospective artist, Jim Haverkamp, will orchestrate the first ever Strange Beauty Challenge where 13 filmmakers use an assortment of archival footage to create a short film in less than a week.

All film submissions must include an entry form, an illustrated recipe for the perfect monster and fee. The entry fee is $25 if postmarked by June 20, $35 if postmarked by July 10 and $45 if postmarked by July 25. For more information about submitting to our work-in-progress, music video, dance-a-lorus or Strange Beauty programs, visit: www.cucalorus.org or withoutabox.com.
