(Chicago, IL) Chicago screenwriter/producer Vera J. Brooks believes the kindness of strangers can help her produce her feature film, "The Storm Within." She's requesting individual contributions of $1 to produce the project this fall. In 2011, Brooks was a finalist in the American Black Film Festival/Gospel Music Channel Screenplay Competition. Over the past decade, Brooks has produced two short films, one that received an Honorable Mention in the Chris Wetzel Comedy Film Competition. She also produced 40 staged readings as the co-founder and Executive Director of Chicago ScriptWorks, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting original screenplays by writers from all over the country.

Brooks recalls a similar request for support. "In 1987, a young man with the dream to attend college wrote legendary Sun-Times columnist Bob Greene requesting that he publish his letter asking readers to send one penny to help him reach his goal. The world answered," says Brooks.

A trailer for the film can be viewed at www.indiegogo.com/thestormwithin where contributions can also be made. The name of every person that contributes $1 will be listed in the closing credits of the film. "This can be successful with ‘word of mouth' and lots of faith," said Brooks.

"The Storm Within" tells the story of Lorraine Peterson, whose quiet home is turned upside down during the Chicago Blizzard of 1967. Seven guests are stranded in her home for four days, including her brother, whom she blames for her husband's death. Lorraine has no choice-- she must face those she's shut out of her life-- and her biggest fears. Illiteracy and agoraphobia are social issues addressed in the family drama.

The Indiegogo campaign is in progress through Monday, October 1st 2012.
