(Washington) Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

WEDNESDAY, MAY 12: KATHARINE HEPBURN

Profile America -- Wednesday, May 12th. Today marks the birthday in 1907 of one of the nation's most revered actresses - Katharine Hepburn, with a long and distinguished career in movies, the Broadway stage and television. She won four Oscars - more than any other actress - ranging from "Morning Glory" in 1933 to "On Golden Pond" in 1981, with eight other nominations. The American Film Institute has ranked Hepburn as the greatest female star in the history of American cinema. She died at the age of 96. When Katharine Hepburn made her first movie in 1932, there were about 10,000 movie theaters across the country. Now, that number is nearly 4,800 - many with multiple screens.
