The American Movie Awards announced its return to the upper echelon of the Hollywood awards scene with a renewed focus to recognize and honor the independent filmmaker. In 1980, the American Movie Awards debuted as a top film award honor. The inaugural ceremony attracted A-list Hollywood presenters and award recipients such as Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, Warren Beatty and Clint Eastwood to its gala event. Today, the AMA’s present their new look and focus with the announcement of a renewed annual competition and the launch of their website http://www.americanmovieawards.com.

Independent filmmakers have taken notice: the dedicated presence of the American Movie Awards in the indie film world is a rare opportunity for recognition by such a significant and meaningful award. Organizers of the AMA’s say this new emphasis on the indie market was a conscious decision. “As we began to plot the American Movie Awards’ new emphasis, we knew we wanted its established influence directed at the amazing films being made by the indie film community. The fact is many of the very best films being made today are created by independent artists,” said Executive Director, Adrin Lamonte.

One aspect of the American Movie Awards that will remain the same, says Lamonte, is the scale and prestige of the award show itself. “We chose Las Vegas for the splendor and opulence this event demands. We are going to give these deserving filmmakers the larger-than-life recognition they deserve.”

As in the past, the live awards presentation will be a magnet for the press, industry insiders and celebrities; and a chance for upcoming filmmakers and talent to network with their peers and meet working professionals in the entertainment industry. The 2014 American Movie Awards will be held on May 10th, 2014 at the exclusive Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

The American Movie Awards’ Call of Entries is now open to all independent filmmakers and is accepting entries of all genres and categories including a screenplay contest.

The American Movie Awards are made possible through the generous support of our sponsors. This year’s competition sponsors include IndieFlix, RAW: Natural Born Artists, Thought Division, Corona, and Dollar Rent A Car.
