Angénieux Lenses are Integral Contributors to the French Cinema Community

(Saint-Héand, France) Thales Angénieux repeated the honor of being the official film industry sponsor for the 2nd RENDEZVOUS WITH FRENCH CINEMA Film Festival in Singapore. With Angénieux zoom lenses at the heart of many highly prestigious film shoots, their support of the event and participation in the promotion of French cinema to the world comes naturally to the company.

"We are supporting the art of filmmaking and, as a French manufacturer, we are always very pleased to contribute to the promotion and understanding of French culture through our cinema," said Pierre Andurand, CEO of Thales Angénieux. "We are particularly proud of the movies presented this year at the Singapore Festival and shot with our Optimo lenses."

Throughout many meetings held during the festival, conversation centered on the defense of image quality in films. The celebrated French actress Sophie Marceau, who led the artistic delegation for 2012, openly expressed concerns about the risks of movies becoming more standardized and uniform.

Similar concerns were voiced at a masterclass organized by Angénieux for the cinema students of Singapore on December 6 at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Speaking in support was a production team from My Lucky Star, a film screened at the festival, including Director Anne Fassio, Actress Fleur-Lise Heuet, and DoP Antoine Roch AFC, who used an Optimo 24-290 zoom lens.

Before a group of about thirty students, the My Lucky Star team also discussed the importance of sharing and understanding points of view between the film director, the actors and the director of photography on a film set. In creating the film, the group agreed, it is the responsibility of the DoP to translate the director's intentions into images – and the responsibility of the actors to express these intentions through their craft. By nature of its quality, the lens is an essential element in achieving this vision. Using the finest zoom lenses allows a multitude of intentions; facilitates the DoP's job and helps to channel the actor's performance.

The Festival also provided an opportunity for Angénieux to reconnect with French film icon Isabelle Huppert, present for her role in Amour by Michael Haneke. Ms. Huppert's connection with the company dates back to 1989, when Ms. Huppert traveled to Geneva to present an Academy Award to Pierre Angénieux.

During the Red Carpet activities, Angénieux introduced the three lucky winners of its Facebook game, organized and conducted prior to the Festival.

The Rendezvous with French Cinema festival in Singapore provided Angénieux with an opportunity to demonstrate and reinforce their commitment to the motion picture industry. Angénieux lenses are known for their exceptional quality, superb colorimetry, and, at a time when many films are moving to digital production, are particularly appreciated by DoPs and film crews in counterpoint to the characteristics of digital cameras.
