(Redondo Beach, CA) - South Bay Film Academy, which provides summer camps where kids, ages 7-11, and teens, ages 12-16, learn the ropes to filmmaking, is commencing a scholarship contest. The purpose of this scholarship program is to foster creativity in the youth.

At SBF Academy, we want to nurture the creative vision of students and reward those who risk sharing their vision, said Susanna DeSimone, Co-Founder of SBF Academy. Once participants are in the program, the goal is to connect students to their voice as they learn all aspects of filmmaking from story inception to production. This includes screenwriting, acting, cinematography, and directing. The scholarship programs winning films will be screened the end-of-semester showcase.

SBF Academy has also initiated this scholarship program as a means to provide access to their summer camp to those that may not otherwise be able to attend. We do not want finances to be a barrier to kids who have a desire to learn about the visual arts, stated Crystal Ellis co-founder of SBF Academy.

SBF Academys scholarship program is available to South Bay kids and teens ages 7-16. To enter the scholarship contest, participants should submit a one-page essay describing their movie idea to info(at)southbayfilmacademy(dot)com. For more details and directions go to the website http://www.southbayfilmacademy.com. Contestants have until July 15th to enter. The top creative film concepts will be chosen to receive a full scholarship to the summer 2012 Film Camp. The winning films will be screened at the end of the Program showcase.
