Sundog Pictures announced today it will be holding a special screening of its groundbreaking documentary “Breaking the Taboo,” in San Diego, California on Thursday, June 20th 2013. “Breaking the Taboo” is a documentary about how the war on drugs has failed. The special screening will be attended by Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson, and San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, who will both participate in a panel discussion on the need for drug reform after the screening.

In making the announcement, Sundog Pictures founder Sam Branson said, “Within 4 weeks of releasing the film online we reached an audience of over 780,000 people, and since then the number has been growing. We have started a much needed global debate as to why current drug laws around the world need to be changed. We’re excited to hold this special screening in San Diego because of its close proximity to Mexico, and the critical role for drug reform that is needed between these two borders of California and Mexico.”

Narrated by Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman, “Breaking the Taboo,” takes a critical look at how after 50 years of prohibition, illicit drugs are now the third most valuable industry in the world after food and oil. Speaking during the documentary former US President Bill Clinton admits, “Obviously if the expected results were that we would eliminate serious drug use in America and eliminate the narco-trafficking networks, it hasn’t worked.”

In announcing he is attending the event Sir Richard Branson said, “Because I sit on the Global Commission on Drug Policy, I want as many people around the world to see this film. The time has come to break the taboo in how current drug policy is shaped. Screenings and discussions like this should be an ongoing global priority.”

“Breaking the Taboo” was filmed in 8 countries; conducted interviews with over 176 people; and has the support of 4 former Presidents & The Global Commission on Drug Policy. The documentary feature follows The Global Commission on Drug Policy on a mission to break the political taboo over the United States led War on Drugs and expose what it calls the biggest failure of global policy in the last 40 years.

“Breaking the Taboo” sets out facts and figures on a war that is failing on all fronts. The film calls for its audience to demand an honest debate amongst politicians and to break the taboo on a subject that for many decades has been viewed by the majority of world leaders as “political suicide.”

“Breaking the Taboo” has also garnered the support of Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson and Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman, who have recorded viral announcements encouraging the public to “Break the Taboo” on the war on drugs.
