(NEW YORK, NY) - The July 1st release date for The Silent City Series on YouTube is not just great news for fans of post-apocalyptic fiction, but also serves as an opening for the era of a new film production model. Global collaboration, fan-funded and free distribution across YouTube, Rubidium Wu has shown that future filmmakers can now focus more on the idea than worry about getting their projects seen.

The Silent City is a project that first appeared on Kickstarter earlier this year. In only a few short months, the project was able to exceed their $10,000 required budget by 20%. Since February, The Silent City released glimpses of the series that have met with fan-enthusiasm and buzz across the net with notable mentions from jacehallshow.com and boingboing.net as well as backing by Felicia Day.

In The Silent City, viewers will find a unique story created with the meshing of new talent, striking cinematography and locations that perfectly radiate a world abandoned and left as a mystery for a few survivors to solve.

To keep series production costs down, creator Rubidium Wu chose to film in the abandoned spaces of New York. These hidden areas that have sat quietly and ignored within one of the busiest cities in the world now bring tangibility to the world of The Silent City. From the tagged concrete to an underground fortress, these real life locations provide a real depth and quality both as background scenery, and also as another antagonist in the very dangerous future of The Silent City.

As the Kickstarter project for The Silent City progressed, fans of the idea had the opportunity to become a part of the series. Roles as zombies were offered, producer credits and even a statue of one project backer will be included in the series.

The fan-centric fun does not stop there, as viewers should be on the lookout for contests and promotional events during the course of the series. So much of the life of the project comes from fan/backer participation and that connection will remain vital throughout the life of The Silent City.

Project creator Rubidium Wu, had this to say about the process of creating the first season of The Silent City:

�Film production techniques have been getting cheaper for years but we lacked a funding or distribution model. Now, YouTube has emerged as a great distributor for independent content that is now building into a real force to be reckoned with. Now, Kickstarter and crowdfunding connects everything and truly democratizes film/TV/music at every level. We see The Silent City as the direct result of this new, totally online medium coming of age. High quality, crowdfunded, world-wide distributed, projects which are then promoted over the social media universe are the future of storytelling.

Producer Matthias Schmitt added, �Helping Rubidium to execute his vision on a shoe-string budget was definitely a challenge! But so is scrounging for food and basic necessities in a post-apocalyptic world, so we were in the right mindset from the beginning.� Cast and Crew

Eric Stafford is an actor and writer currently living in Brooklyn, New York. During his time as a former U.S. Navy Serviceman, Eric was stationed in San Diego, CA as a crew member of the USS Independence aircraft carrier (now decommissioned) which was used in the film �Flight of the Intruder� starring Danny Glover and Willem Dafoe. It was during this film when as an extra, he had a conversation with Danny Glover that set him on the path to becoming an actor.

Kettie is a Haitian-Vietnamese actress born in the city of Jacmel, Haiti and raised in Montreal, Canada. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for a semester when she first moved to New York City. After completing a Masters degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, Kettie dedicated herself to her first passion: acting.

Kettie started traveling at a young age. She lived a year in Hong Kong as an exchange student and travelled throughout South East Asia, China India, Nepal, Mongolia, the Middle East and Africa. Her travels shaped her into an adventurous woman and her experiences transcend into her art. Kettie currently lives in New York where she divides her time between acting and non-profit work for Haiti.

Rubidium Wu started his film career as an animator and Visual Effects artist before graduating to directing, helming award-winning TV commercials for Nintendo and Adidas. He spent 3 years completing the documentary 'Portraits of Silence' on French/Japanese artist Andr� Sollier, which premiered in 2007 to wide acclaim. In 2012, He launched The Silent City Series project on Kickstarter and has scheduled the release of the series for July the 1st at [The Silent City Series on YouTube.
