Shadow and Act Launches Round 3 of Their Online Short Film Competition

(New York, NY) -- Shadow and Act Films launches Round 3 of the Shadowand Act Digital Filmmaker Showcase. The Showcase is an online short film competition where viewers vote for their favorite short films and the winning filmmakers receive cash prizes. The Showcase focuses on the ever-growing body of work about people of color from around the African Diaspora.

Round 3 adds eleven (11) new films to the Showcase line-up including, for the first time, a world premiere and 2 short documentaries. The Showcase will premiere Will Raee's FAITH & DREAMS, a compelling look at the brutal recruitment of child soldiers in Uganda. Also featured will be the short documentary CORRECTIVE RAPE, directed by Joel Edwards, which explores a troubling trend in South Africa involving the rape of lesbians by men in an effort to change their sexual orientation. Other first time titles includeCLOSE from Sundance 2011 alum Tahir Jetter, 2010 Urbanworld Film Festival winner KATRINA'S SON by Ya'ke, HEAR ME by Kenn Michael and MR. GRAHAM from Julius Amedume. These films will join popular entries carried over from prior rounds including HUG (Khary Jones), IN THE WIND (Martin Papazian), MEN IN LOVE (Keith Davis) and LOO$E CHANGE (Mykwain Gainey).

James Bland, director of the short film COCOA LOVE, and Dominique DeLeon, director of the short film TAGS, are the respective winners of Rounds 1 and 2.

Shadow and Act Films also sponsors the Shadow and Act Filmmaker Challenge, a screenplay competition that awards funds to the winning filmmaker to produce a short based on their script. Past winners include Nikyatu Jusu (BLACK SWAN THEORY) and Rod Gailes OBC (SOFT FOCUS). Ka'ramuu Kush was named the winner of the most recent Challenge for his script AND THEN.
