Seed&Spark, the world’s first crowd-funding and digital distribution platform made just for independent film, is proud to announce the day-and-date release of ‘I Send You This Place’ in the Seed&Spark Cinema. I Send You This Place went live today on Seed&Spark, in conjunction with a week-long theatrical run organized by Independent Film Project (IFP) to take place at reRun Theater in Brooklyn, NY. The release coincides with the launch of IOWA MIXTAPE in the Seed&Spark Cinema.

I Send You This Place is a visual exploration inside the mind of a young, wide-eyed woman as she searches for her brother in Iceland. As the nature of the small island rapidly uncovers new perspectives on mental health, the woman begins to find her brother amid the ranting wind, grandiose clouds, and bi-polarized sun. The film was an official selection of the 2012 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and the 2012 Reykjavík International Film Festival in Iceland. It was featured on the Documentary Channel’s Doc Talk program and has been called “...an exceptional work of art that beautifully manages to balance conventional and experimental storytelling and create something truly original.”

The film was written, directed, and produced by husband and wife team Andrea Sisson and Pete Ohs while living in Iceland together on a Fulbright Fellowship. Having made the entire movie with no outside help, the two see the project as a piece of themselves. "We love this movie and we love the time in our lives when we made this movie,” says Andrea Sisson. “It is our first film - a manifesto, and a calling card. We hope you hear it well, feel it well, and enjoy it."

Seed&Spark, IFP, and reRun have all been eagerly anticipating this day-and-date release. This is the first time Seed&Spark has participated in this type of release.

A wide-eyed young woman searches Iceland’s otherworldly terrain for her schizophrenic brother. Part memoir, part travelogue, part philosophical rumination, I Send You This Place tells the story of a young woman whose wanderlust sparks an unexpected spiritual transformation. Andrea leaves her familiar life in Ohio and, accompanied by her new husband and filmmaking partner Pete, journeys to austere, exotic Iceland. There, Andrea encounters a landscape unlike anything she has ever experienced—a place where glaciers are more common than billboards, where inhabitants are known to speak to mountains, where summers bring twenty-four hours of daylight, and winters bring twenty-four hours of darkness. Overwhelmed by Iceland’s physical grandeur, Andrea begins to question her comfortable notions of sanity and creativity, perception and conformity. Andrea’s breakthroughs lead her to embrace her own eccentricities, namely, her ADD diagnosis which she comes to view as a gift, not a curse. Andrea is also reminded of her schizophrenic brother, Jacob, someone defiantly oblivious to man’s rules. His “delusional” thoughts and “erratic” behavior are not so different from Andrea’s untamed surroundings in which the wind rants, the clouds are grandiose and the seasons bi-polar. Led by Pete’s probing questions, Andrea arrives at fresh and startling insights. The island becomes a new model for studying mental health and understanding man’s place in the universe.
