(Las Vegas, NV) - Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) continues to build momentum for its DivX Plus Streaming solution, today announcing that Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has signed an agreement to incorporate the technology into its integrated circuit (IC) solutions for connected home entertainment devices. The new deal expands upon an existing relationship for DivX Plus HD Certification and Rovi Entertainment Store, which are currently being deployed on a range of Renesas system-on-chips (SoCs).

"DivX Plus Streaming will complement the advanced digital entertainment features of Renesas platforms and contribute to a great viewing experience for consumers using the devices powered by our IC solutions," said Koichiro Hayashi, AGM, Home Multimedia Business Division, Renesas. Many of our customers already know DivX for delivering exceptional video quality for download to own content, so they will be immediately interested in DivX Plus Streaming that brings advanced viewing features to digitally delivered entertainment.

The Rovi technology solution offers smooth adaptive streaming from standard definition to 1080p video resolution to help maintain optimal visual quality as bandwidth fluctuates and help provide a buffer-free playback experience. Bringing a robust, cutting-edge feature set to streaming media that is typically characteristic of the Blu-ray Disc consumer experience, DivX Plus Streaming supports subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play features such as smooth fast forward and rewind, quick-start playback, and resume playback across devices. DivX Plus Streaming also works in conjunction with Rovis DivX Plus HD certification to enable offline playback of digital video files with similar advanced features. This week, Rovi introduced its newest encoding software tools, MainConcept SDK 9.5 and TotalCode Enterprise 2.0, that also support encoding for DivX Plus Streaming.

This agreement adds to the groundswell of support we have received for DivX Plus Streaming, said Matt Milne, EVP, worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi Corporation. Through the support of major studios, IC manufacturers, consumer electronics makers, and retailers, we are creating the ecosystem necessary to dramatically improve the over-the-top entertainment experience for consumers.

To develop DivX Plus Streaming, Rovi built upon core DivX technologies recognized by millions of consumers around the world for delivering great video performance, visual quality, and multi-screen interoperability. The solution also utilizes trusted digital rights management technology currently used by a number of online retailers offering movies in the DivX format including WB Shop and Media Markt. To accelerate time to market and device integration, Rovi has built out the existing certification program used for DivX technology device validation and compatibility a program that has resulted in shipment by top-tier manufacturers of over 600 million DivX-compatible consumer electronics devices into the market. Rovi is showcasing a number of its technologies and services that are driving and enabling the digital entertainment ecosystem at NAB 2012, including DivX Plus Streaming, MainConcept SDK 9.5, TotalCode Enterprise 2.0, and Rovi Entertainment Store. Rovi is exhibiting at NAB 2012, April 16 to 19, 2012 (South Upper Hall, Booth 6215) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
