Director Naga Kataru knew of Rough House’s creative capabilities from the company’s work on Google corporate films. When the engineer-turned-filmmaker came to editor and co-owner Roger Krakow for post-production support and advice on his first dramatic film, Roger enthusiastically agreed. “Rough House has a long history of supporting independent film makers and has provided creative post services for many films including Bob Zagone’s Read You Like A Book, David Schendel’s Yank Tanks, Andy Abrahams Wilson’s Under Our Skin as well as many others. I was excited to work on Naga’s project. His enthusiasm was infectious.”

Naga came to Rough House for post work on "Boxed In," October of 2011. Besides editing, Rough House also provided graphic design and color correction. "Naga was always a joy to work with. His vision was clear and he was feeling positive about getting this first project in the can and ready for the edit. He welcomed advice on timing, color correcting, and story line from Roger. It was lovely to see the dedication and wonderment for the project as there tends to be less heartfelt projects in standard corporate video," says Karen Stilwell, Rough House client service coordinator.

Naga relied heavily on Roger to rework the story line to smooth out some rough edges. "We lost some scenes, which was hard for me. We also changed the order of some scenes and added some small effects to give some scenes more impact. In the end, the work we did in the edit bay made story line much clearer and gave the film more impact. Roger not only helped give my film new life but he generously supported me by offering special rates and a lot of support," says Naga about his experience working with Rough House.

Naga Kataru premiered Boxed In at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival (HRIFF) last December. Ever since, the film has played at several film festivals around the US and recently won The FreeStyle Life's Audience award for the 2013 Best Short film. The inspiration for Boxed In stemmed from Kataru’s research into what else goes on at self-storage facilities other than people storing their stuff. Originally conceived as a documentary, Kataru turned it into a short film about a reclusive self-storage facility manager who is forced to face his fears. Naga Kataru is currently pursuing his Second City Directing Program in Hollywood, CA where he is one of the eight students admitted into the program.
