Pepperdine University Offers Certificate in Film & Television Finance

Program Provides Tools to Help Film and Television Finance Professionals Make Complex Decisions Required for Successful Deals

A new Certificate in Film and Television Finance at Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management will provide current and future entertainment finance professionals with in-depth critical analysis and evaluation skills for transacting successful financing deals. The Certificate in Film & Television Finance will be held for an exclusive number of participants September 23-26, 2013 from 8am-5pm at the Villa Graziadio Executive Center at 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90263.

"The combination of instruction from Pepperdine professors who specialize in entrepreneurial finance and industry experts in film and media financing is a perfect fit for professionals who are serious about understanding the financial underpinnings and details of film and television deals," said Dr. Craig Everett, Assistant Professor of Finance and Associate Director, Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project.

The executive education certificate program is taught at the MBA level and is appropriate for producers, accountants, attorneys, financial analysts and other entertainment business professionals. The certificate qualifies for continuing education credit for CPAs licensed in California; MCLE for attorneys licensed in California and may qualify for other credentials depending on the state of jurisdiction.

Certificate Learning Objectives

  • Fundamentals of finance applied to film and television deals
  • Commonly used contractual agreements
  • Rights acquisition, pre-sales, budgeting, and establishment of the production company
  • Government sources of funding: international co-production, grants, tax incentives, and soft money
  • Equity sources of funding: private equity, hedge funds, limited partnerships, IRC Section 181, Slate Financing Arrangements (SFA)
  • Debt financing: Senior debt, asset-based lending, mezzanine, Gap, SuperGap
  • Risk management: Insurance, bonding and currency hedging
