(Lewiston, Maine) Actor Patrick Dempsey has signed on as Executive Producer of The Peloton Project, a documentary film that will follow the lives of nearly 40 cyclists as they prepare to take on this year's Cancervive Peloton Project. The Cancervive Peloton Project, aimed at ambassadorship of cancer survivors and awareness of their issues, is a 10-day bike ride that features a group of nearly 40 cyclists in pelotons of six, cycling relay style 24 hours a day. On October 2nd, the Peloton team will embark on a 2,500-mile journey from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Lewiston, Maine, where they will participate in the Dempsey Challenge, an annual fundraising event for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

Woven throughout the team's journey across North America will be stories of cancer survivors, caregivers, and a young woman who has just been diagnosed. The Peloton Project Film will look closely at the people behind the cancer diagnoses to see what life is like for them before and after cancer and how they find strength to face the challenge ahead. The film will demonstrate the similarities in the journey of the cyclists and the journey of a cancer patient, all demonstrating a commitment to move forward—sometimes charging, sometimes crawling, but finding the strength to advance on the journey.

"I am very excited to be part of something that is so near to my heart: cancer support and cycling," said Dempsey. "The Peloton Project will share a very important story with the world."

Dempsey joins Director Ramsey Tripp, Owner of Trade-mark R Productions in Lewiston, Maine, and Producer, Laura Davis, Partner at Rinck Advertising in Auburn, Maine, as the team leading the charge for the film. Davis is a four-time cancer survivor and won the 2011 Amgen Breakaway from Cancer Survivor award for her involvement in community outreach and for demonstrating a passion for helping others with cancer.
