SAN FRANCISCO-- San Francisco-born filmmaker, Amy Do, has a lot of experience shooting videos of furry, fun-loving creatures. After shooting her fair share of behind-the-scenes footage of Wookiees for the Star Wars: Episode III documentaries during her employment at Lucasfilm Ltd. on Skywalker Ranch, it was only natural that Amy move on to direct her own feature-length documentary - Rabbit Fever - a film containing similarly fuzzy subject matter. What is Rabbit Fever all about? "It's sometimes hard to explain the film to people," Amy admits. "I always start by asking them, 'You know how people show dogs and horses? Well, they show rabbits, too!'"

Of course, the subject of rabbit showing is nothing new to the nearly 30,000 members of the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) who will be celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2010. Equivalent to the prestige of the American Kennel Club's Westminster Dog Show, the ARBA organizes a National Rabbit Convention which draws more than 20,000 rabbits each year - the largest mass of rabbits in the world. With over 47 different rabbit breeds to gawk at - including an exotic long-haired variety called the "Lionhead" - it's a mystery how such an established spectacle has never been highlighted by mainstream media - until now.

Amy initially produced Rabbit Fever as a 20-minute documentary for her film class while studying at the University of Southern California. It wasn't until Academy-Award nominated instructor, Charles Braverman (director of the documentary, Curtain Call), approached her after class and offered to pitch the film to television networks that Amy felt encouraged to make it feature-length. Flash forward seven years, four National ARBA Conventions, and more than 150 hours worth of footage later, Amy has finally finished the documentary and is looking forward to releasing it to film festivals worldwide later this year. In regards to Amy's experience working on the Star Wars franchise compared to the rabbit industry? Amy laughs, "Well, it's definitely two different galaxies altogether - but I'll admit that in both instances, I've found stray fur on my clothing at the end of the day."
