(Hollywood, CA) - The Los Angeles Film School (www.lafilm.edu), a creative arts college in Hollywood that offers students an immersive experience, world-class facilities and a supportive culture in preparation for a career in the entertainment business, today announced that it has teamed up with the GI Film Festival to host the first-ever Hollywood event in conjunction with its 3rd Annual Salute event honoring military servicemen and women. The GI Film Festival, the first and only film festival in the country dedicated to honoring the successes and sacrifices of American GIs through the medium of film, is now accepting submissions for its Hollywood event to be held at the Los Angeles Film School campus on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

"We are pleased to be hosting the GI Film Festival Hollywood at our campus this year," said Amber Chaib, Director of Military Affairs for The Los Angeles Film School. "Given our large student veteran community here at the school, we're thrilled to be able to offer them, as well other talented servicemen and women, an opportunity to have their creative work recognized on a national scale."

"This is an important milestone for the GI Film Festival as we make our transition from an annual event to a year-round national organization," said GI Film Festival President Brandon Millett. "We are very excited to spend Veteran's Day Weekend in Hollywood showcasing films that honor our men and women in uniform, and we could not ask for a better host facility. The Los Angeles Film School is the perfect location for our inaugural Hollywood event, given its stunning world-class facility and its commitment to veteran filmmakers."

GI Film Festival Hollywood will feature award-winning films from the 2012 Washington, D.C. festival held May 14-20, 2012, as well as a selection of new short film submissions from military veteran filmmakers. The Hollywood festival is also open to current and former military filmmakers of every experience level from first-timers to veteran directors and producers. All films selected will highlight the successes and sacrifices of American military servicemen and women and/or the general worldwide struggle for liberty and democracy. Film submissions must have at least one main character (real or fiction) serving or have served in the U.S. military who is depicted with respect.

Additional submission details include:

Submitter (above the line) must be: Current or former Military with a short film (under 45 minutes).
Films can be entered into two categories: Narrative and Documentary
Entries must be received by September 18, 2012 and sent to: GI Film Festival, 2776 S. Arlington #810, Arlington, VA, 22206. (late entries will not be considered)

In addition to screening at the event for an audience of industry professionals, GIFF Hollywood will present an "audience award" to the best overall film.

The GI Film Festival Hollywood will be held in conjunction with The Los Angeles Film School's 3rd Annual Salute on November 9, 2012. Each year the school honors its veteran students and alumni on or near Veterans Day with an event that showcases both their service and their creative talents in Game Production, Computer Animation, Recording Arts and Filmmaking. The event will feature more than 600 high-ranking military servicemen and women, local government officials, celebrities, and civilian supporters as the school celebrate its most talented veteran students and alumni.
