(San Diego, CA) - Comic-Con -- Independent film distributor Level 33 Entertainment announced today that it has acquired North American distribution rights to the darkly funny horror comedy VAMP U and will release the movie in select theaters this Fall before its bow into home entertainment.

VAMP U stars Julie Gonzalo (DODGEBALL, DALLAS, MUST LOVE DOGS), Gary Cole (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, TALLEDEGA NIGHTS, OFFICE SPACE), Alexis Knapp (PROJECT X), and Adam Johnson. VAMP U was co-written and co-directed by Matt Jespersen and Maclain Nelson.

"With the help of a very talented cast, Matt and Maclain have delivered a very funny and entertaining movie from their clever script," said Level 33 Entertainment Executive Vice President, Sheldon Brigman. "VAMP U delivers on the laughs, but also whets the appetite of horror fans," Brigman added.

Previously titled Dr. Limptooth, Vamp U won Best Horror film at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and also won and was nominated for several awards at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival and the Chicago Comedy Film Festival.

Vamp U has partnered with Monster Energy for promotion and support for the film. Monster energy feels the film is suited to their target demographic and plans on having an Exclusive sneak preview for their fan base before the theatrical release.

"We're excited to partner with Level 33 for the release of Vamp U. They have seen the potential and widespread appeal of our independent film and they are confident it will find its audience." said Maclain Nelson.

Wayne Gretzky (Adam Johnson) is a vampire who can't grow his teeth. His impotence began when he inadvertently killed Mary Lipinsky (Julie Gonzalo), the love of his life, 300 years ago. To take his mind off the pain, he teaches college history - who better than a guy who's been around for centuries? Attempting to regain his full power, he enlists help from his friend and colleague, Dr. Levine (Gary Cole). Nothing goes Wayne's way until a new semester brings freshman Chris Keller (Julie Gonzalo). She's a dead ringer for Mary and they have a lurid affair, while rumors fly around the campus. But it all sours when he turns Chris into a vampire and her newfound bloodlust spins out of control in a bloody rampage, making the rumors a little too real.

Arianne Fraser of Highland Film Group negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers. Highland Film Group is also representing the film's International Rights.
