At just over five minutes in duration Shelved packs a punch, beating out full-length films to take the coveted award for Best Animated Film.

The quirky robot stars – Craig and Beano – also took the metal for Best Animated Characters and James Cunningham was acknowledged with the award for Best Director in the animation category. Shelved was shot in one day and the actors replaced with fully animated robots by a team of 11 Media Design School 3D Animation & Visual Effects students.

Meanwhile, Dr Grordbort Presents: The Deadliest Game, also directed by Cunningham with visual effects by Media Design students, took out four awards in the International category – Best Original Score, Best Editing and Best Special Effects. It also received an Award of Excellence for its category.

Cunningham is currently working on a new short film with his 2013 class, which will be revealed later this year.
