Vacas synopsis
Acclaimed director Julio Medém (Lovers of the Arctic Circle) made his debut with Vacas (Cows), the story of passion and conflict that chronicles the rivalry between two Basque families over three generations. Beginning in 1875 during the Spanish Civil War, Vacas tells of the lingering feud between the Mendiluze and Iriguibel families and follows the two warring factions and how inevitably connected they are as their children and their children’s children find themselves drawn to each other.

Vacas received excellent reviews upon its theatrical release - notably, The New York Times praised it for its “epic sweep and magical realist sensibility”- and Julio Medém received the 1993 Goya Award (Spain’s equivalent of the Oscars) for Best New Director.

The new DVD of Vacas from BayView Entertainment and Tanelorn Films is the first North American release featuring the original 1.66:1 widescreen image (enhanced for widescreen televisions) and has been digitally re-mastered for superb picture and sound quality. The DVD also includes the following special features: production still galleries, theatrical trailer, and filmographies.
