KLCS-TV’s Families Matter: Getting Ready for College show has been nominated for a 2013 Imagen Award for Best Local Informational Program. The awardees will be selected during the 28th Annual Imagen Awards Gala, which will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills California and will begin with red carpet arrivals at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m., and the awards ceremony at 8 p.m.

Hosted by Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) Board of Education Member, Mónica García and María Casillas, the Chief of LAUSD’s School, Family and Parent/ Community Services division, Families Matter consists of two 30-minute programs, one in English and one in Spanish, that provide families with key information about how to help their children succeed in school. The show is produced by Barry Kibrick, a three-time Los Angeles EMMY Award winner well known for his popular show Between the Lines.

"We are proud and honored to be nominated for the Imagen award," said LAUSD Board Member Mónica García. "We continue to push for more positive representation of Latinos in the media. Our goal has been to build awareness and consciousness in our communities about the opportunity to access services and support our children’s success," added García.

Each year, the Imagen Awards honor and recognize the positive portrayals of Latinos and Latino cultures in film, television, and new media, and celebrate the exemplary achievements of Latino talent in the entertainment industry. Imagen Awards programs and initiatives serve as a bridge between the Latino community and the entertainment industry in providing access, education and resources for Latinos in the industry, as well as those seeking careers in entertainment.

This is a second nomination for Families Matter, an original production of KLCS, which reflects the communities of Los Angeles and tells their stories. "This nomination recognizes the mission and goals of the LAUSD to serve parents and students by utilizing its television station to create content that is relevant and specific to the needs of our community," said Sabrina Fair Thomas, General Manager for KLCS-TV.
