Independent Documentary Torn from the Flag Helps Hungary's Red Sludge Victims by Organizing Fundraiser

(HOLLYWOOD, CA) The eight-time-award-winning sociopolitical film about the fall of communism and the significant global effects of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Torn from the Flag, is coming to the aid of Hungary's Red Sludge victims by organizing a fundraiser on their behalf.

The Red Sludge Toxic Spill is the most recent in this year's string of ecological disasters. According to the Washington Times, "This disaster was nearly as great as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill." It caused the Hungarian government to declare a state of emergency.

Former New York Governor George Pataki said, "The situation in Hungary is grave and its people need our help. Last week more than 200 million gallons of toxic red mud flooded into several towns, killing or injuring many while leaving hundreds more homeless. Time and time again, the American people have demonstrated their compassion and sense of responsibility by rising to the occasion and helping their fellow global citizens in times of need. We urge the American people to answer the call on behalf of the people of Hungary."

Torn from the Flag portrays the Hungarian people's courage and triumph under oppressive conditions in 1956, and commemorates the pivotal role the country played in the demise of the Soviet Communist Regime. Hungary took a stand for the global community at the time. Now, in this dire situation, Hungary needs the global community to take a stand for her. With this fundraiser, Producer-Director Klaudia Kovacs, Rev. Zsolt Jakabffy and the Grace Hungarian Reformed Church want to provide an opportunity for Americans and Hungarians alike to come together and help.

The Torn from the Flag fundraiser screening and Q & A will be held at 6:00 pm Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Grace Hungarian Reformed Church, 18858 Erwin Street, Reseda, CA 91335.

Klaudia Kovacs will be available to the local press for interviews before and after the screening.
