(New Orleans, LA) - Director John LaTier of the �The Tell-Tale Heart� filmed the solar eclipse Sunday evening, May 20, 2012, preserving an historical astrological moment while putting the finishing touches on his Edgar Allan Poe-inspired film. The literary thriller is set for a fall debut and stars Rose McGowan, Patrick John Flueger and Peter Bogdanovich.

�It was such a nice ending to the creation of what I hope will be my best film to date. Since I was a child I have always been fascinated with eclipses and solar events,� says LaTier. �I worked with HD Planet Cameras in New Orleans to customize a rig with the RED Epic camera in order to capture the best images of this natural phenomenon. I knew this footage would round out our film and help take the audience to a world uniquely inspired by Poe.�

LaTier filmed the eclipse at an undisclosed location he found by using coordinates from the NASA website. The annular solar eclipse last Sunday is also referred to as a �ring� eclipse because the moon passes in front of the sun, blocking out all but the sun�s outer edge, leaving a golden ring around its circumference. A partial solar eclipse is scheduled for Oct. 23, 2014, but it will only be seen by the western United States. A �total� solar eclipse will take place in 2017, but again it will only be viewable in parts of the country.

However, all seven continents will be able to see the next dramatic celestial event: the Venus transit of the sun, which will occur on June 5 (June 6 in much of the Eastern Hemisphere). Venus will cross the sun�s face from Earth�s perspective, appearing in silhouette as a tiny, slow-moving dot, an event that won�t happen again for 105 years.
