World's Leading Blu-ray Authoring Studios Integrate Sony's Powerful MVC Blu-ray Encoder for Advanced Blu-ray 3D Title Production

(Madison, Wis.) Sony Creative Software, a leading provider of professional video and audio editing applications, announced that Deluxe Digital Studios, the world's largest DVD and Blu-ray Disc authoring and service company, has adopted Sony's Dualstream 3D MVC encoder for compliant production of Blu-ray 3D titles. Using this powerful Sony software tool, Deluxe will incorporate 3D features into Blu-ray discs for its clients, which include Hollywood's largest film studios.

"Hollywood is eager to bring 3D into living rooms, so we've been evaluating the tools that will enable us to deliver an outstanding 3D experience at home via Blu-ray Disc," said Jeff McDermott, Vice President Research and Development, Deluxe Digital Studios. "Sony's Dualstream 3D encoder and Blu-print™ Blu-ray Disc authoring tool help to simplify the incredibly complex challenges of delivering 3D via Blu-ray Disc and enables more creativity in designing 3D content and features. When you factor in the ease in which the Sony tools work together, it was clear that these applications were the ideal solution for producing Blu-ray 3D discs for our clients' blockbuster films."

"With the growing momentum of 3D home entertainment, studios need innovative and powerful new production tools that will ensure 3D films at home have as much impact as those seen in theaters," said Dave Chaimson, vice-president of global marketing for Sony Creative Software. "As Deluxe clients include most leading Hollywood film studios, we're honored they have selected Sony tools to ensure they are able to produce a rich and engaging 3D experience that lives up to the expectations of both the industry and consumers as we embrace this impactful new format."

Sony Pictures Entertainment and its Digital Authoring Center also used Dualstream 3D, along with Blu-print 6 and the new Z Depth™ application for the Blu-ray 3D production of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the first Sony Pictures title to be released on Blu-ray 3D.

The Dualstream 3D encoder offers an enterprise-level solution that simplifies the complexity of encoding the dual left-eye and right-eye streams in the MVC (Multi-View Coding) codec necessary for Blu-ray 3D authoring. The application significantly enhances 3D workflow processes including 3D title authoring that meets Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) Blu-ray 3D specifications. The MVC encoded streams are also used for the 2D playback options of a Blu-ray 3D Disc. Sony Creative Software's Blu-print 6 allows importing of the encoded MVC content for project authoring in 2D or 3D modes. Blu-print 6 is fully capable of stereoscopic authoring in accordance with the BDA Profile 5 standard.

Dualstream 3D, Z Depth and Blu-print 6 are available through Sony Creative Software Professional Services at www.sonycreativesoftware.com.
