The DC Shorts Film Festival (September 6-16, 2012) showcases the largest audience-driven collection of short films in the USA. Now in their 9th year, they are looking forward to hundreds of filmmakers and thousands of audience members to mix, mingle and explore the world of short cinema in the nation's capital. DC Shorts Film Festival selects films of every genre and niche for their competition screenings -- with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. In 2011, they screened 145 films from 23 countries over 11 days to an audience of 8,500 people.

The DC Shorts Screenplay Competition (October 2012) is a very different kind of screenwriting competition. A panel of judges consisting of filmmakers, screenwriters and critics will review and provide feedback for scripts of 15 pages or less. 5-7 finalists are featured during ScriptDC - the region's largest screenwriting conference - where their scripts will be read in front of a live audience - and one walks away with $2,000 to shoot their project! If the script is shot and completed by the deadline, it is automatically included as an official selection for the 2013 DC Shorts Film Festival. In 2011, DC Shorts read five screenplays (from 126 entries) in front of a live audience of 275 people.
