(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles Post Production Group welcomes Sony Pictures Imageworks’ Digital Effects Supervisor Daniel Kramer on September 21st at 5pm at the DV Expo at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Kramer, who supervised the digital effects for “The Smurfs” will offer attendees the rare opportunity to hear first-hand how Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf and Smurfette were brought to life by discussing 2D to 3D character design challenges, look development features, animation, on-set data acquisition and a new physically based lighting pipeline specifically developed for the project.

According to Kramer, this new technology significantly reduced lighting setup time allowing his department to finish shots faster and spend more time on improving the quality of the Smurfs’ digital image.

“This will be a great opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at how these animated characters are created,” explained LAPPG Founder Woody Woodhall, CAS who will be presenting “Post Sound for Digital Content Creators: What You Need to Know to Make Your Project Sound As Good As It Looks” earlier that day at the DVE Center Stage at 12:30pm.
