(Tempe, AZ) - Every once in a while a childhood dream comes true. For local film makers Ralph and Douglas Brekan that day is June 3rd, 2012. The Brekan brothers grew up fantasying about watching their creations on the silver screen. The two began producing short films on super 8mm and Betamax video in their Tempe garage when Ralph was ten years old and his younger brother Douglas only seven.

Ralph, who graduated from McClintock High in Tempe, went on to SCC in 1993, worked for years as production assistant and then as a laborer before joining the motion picture union in Phoenix. This opened the door for work on the 1996 Village Roadshow motion picture "Three Kings" staring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. Ralph has lived and worked in Arizona as a film technician the past 20 years.

Douglas, who graduated from Marcos deNiza High School, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in motion picture and television production and has been developing screenplays for low budget films since graduating in 2000. But the dream of directing was still lingering in the back of his mind.

In 2008, Ralph approached his brother to direct a screenplay, "Lighthouse Lane," they had been developing over the course of a decade. Douglas, seizing the opportunity to work with industry level professionals on a micro-budget scale, agreed. "The film was shot using sparse locations, a truncated shooting schedule, and scarce resources," states director Douglas Brekan in his publicity statement. "The biggest challenge with making a film like this is trying to make $10,000 go as far as it possibly can. The subject matter lended itself to re-using the same scenes throughout the film, representing the cyclical and repetitive nature of its main character�s psychotic thoughts."

Lighthouse Lane stars local Go Daddy girl Leeann Dearing (Everything Must Go, Redemption) as Dawn Snyder, a mentally estranged college drop out trying to cope with her dreams and hallucinations. The film also features Leni Ford (Grey's Anatomy, Unusual Suspects) as the overbearing and abusive mother, relentlessly abusing her daughter into deep despair.

Nominated for several Los Angeles Movie Awards, including Best Experimental Feature, Lighthouse Lane marks a dream come true for the Brekan brothers. As the producer proudly states on their website, "Lighthouse Lane dares to break cinema conventions dragging the viewer into dark and unsuspecting corners of suburban reality. With the release of Lighthouse Lane, the Brekan brothers hope to introduce art-film goers to their unique form of surrealist montage."

A special engagement festival screening of Lighthouse Lane will take place at Harkins CineCapri Theaters at Tempe Marketplace on June 3rd, 2012. The screening is open to the public.
