Andrew Pepper Foundation Hosts the Documentary Film "Not a Feather, but a Dot" for the First West Coast Screening in San Francisco

Praised by the Library Journal as a "discussion starter on the topic of prejudice and cultural differences," The film seeks to place the Indian-American conversation alongside other immigrant groups in 20th century American history. It was also described as "... narrated with critical sensibility and humor. I found the section on stereotypes particularly powerful and persuasive..." by Associate Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Viranjini Munasinghe, Cornell University.

The 60-minute documentary is directed and narrated by Teju Prasad, an independent documentary filmmaker, who draws on his experiences as a New Jersey-bred, first-generation Indian-American to tell the story of his heritage and its portrayal in various parts of American culture. Through a series of dramatized humor skits, man-on-the-street interviews and contributions from Indian-Americans across a spectrum of professions—professors, politicians and actors to taxi drivers and newsstand operators—Prasad pieces together a reality rooted in ethnic stereotypes, prejudices and societal pressure to conform to American culture, as well as an inspiring depiction of the incredible successes and deviations from the “traditional” that now define Indian Americans in this country.

The film has screened in three New York area film festivals, as well as separate theatrical screenings in the following cities: New York, NY, New Brunswick, NJ, Durham, NC and Washington DC. These have been entirely possible through audience support, having taken place through the "Tugg" platform.

The San Francisco screening is scheduled at the AMC Van Ness Theater: 1000 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA, 94109, on July 15th at 7:30 pm. The screening will also be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director. The event will only take place when the minimum number of pre-sales tickets are reached prior to the deadline (a total of 62 tickets).

To bring the film and Q&A to San Francisco, all tickets must be reserved online directly, prior to July 8th at:
