(New York) Becomes is an unhurried foray into the studio of sculptor André Desjardins. Under the camera's patient and discreet eye, a sculpture is born. Each step of the creative process is scrutinized; from the shaping of the armature, the fleshing out in clay to the finishing touches. The sculptor's concentration and silence are intense yet fragile. Clinking of tools, focussed breaths, creaking floor; the spellbinding atmosphere of the studio plunges us in a near meditative state. On a few rare occasions, the artist shares his thoughts in confidential voice-overs.

André Desjardins, sculptor and painter
In 2008, Desjardins' journey at New York Art Expo significantly evolved when approached by Masterpiece Publishing, a prestigious American visual artist agency, to join their internationally recognized artist team. Art Business News magazine has since proclaimed Andre Desjardins as “one of the best contemporary artists in the United States.”

Desjardins is a Canadian artist represented by Masterpiece Publishing. Since he joined the group, his work has appeared in more than 35 galleries, museums, corporate and public collections throughout North America. His paintings and sculptures are now also exported to Armenia, Russia, and starting in May, to Shanghai, China. Galerie ROCCIA in Montreal is privileged to exclusively present his work throughout Canada.

Hélène Bélanger-Martin, filmmaker and gallery owner
Owner of Galerie ROCCIA in Montreal, the essence of Hélène Bélanger-Martin's soul is passion. Trained as an art historian and filmmaker, she now masters both art and business.

Her path through filmmaking has brought her to the inevitable creation of art films. By directing her art gallery, she has the privilege to be in close proximity with artists and their creative process. She has married both her passions by putting the extraordinary creative process on film.

Hélène Bélanger-Martin produced her first artist portrait in 2009 as director of Visual Emotionism, a film on the pictorial creation process of artist André Desjardins.

The great success of Visual Emotionism has also enabled the birth of Becomes, the profoundly moving film on Desjardins' sculptural process of creation. A vibrant masterpiece that gives the viewer the opportunity to participate in the genesis of the mystery of artistic creation.

The film runs daily in the Education Pavilion at Artexpo New York at Pier 92 on the Hudson with Q&A by the artist Desjardins on Thursday March 22 at 5pm and Friday March 23 at 6pm. Presentation of the film without the Q&A will be on Saturday March 24 at 6pm and Sunday March 25 at 4pm.
