Academy of Art University instructor Eduardo Pacheco is always searching for new inspiration. He knew that the knowledge and skills he gained as a BFA student in the Academy’s School of Animation & Visual Effects would contribute to his creative journey as a MFA student in the School of Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media. His experience in both programs is helping him achieve his goal to become a music producer and sound designer for video games, motion pictures and television.

"Ultimately, both of my degrees will give me total creative control in designing graphics and music to make my games and films more impactful,” said Pacheco.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Pacheco always dreamed of creating the worlds he saw in movies and video games as a child. After researching which art college he would attend, Pacheco chose Academy of Art University based on its artistic reputation and location in one of the world’s favorite cities, San Francisco.

“In the late 90’s, video games became more cinematic. Animation studios like PIXAR and Lucasfilms produced award-winning films and blockbuster hits that could be created on a computer. Digital animation has become a respected profession as a result of their success,” he explained.  

Pacheco remembers the personal attention he received from his instructors when he was a student and demonstrates that with his own students today. “Chuck Pyle, Director of the School of Illustration, was a very inspirational instructor and became my go-to person for advice and feedback during my undergraduate years. He reviewed my work and assisted with my interviewing, helping to solidify my skills as a designer. After graduating and working at a gaming company called 2 Clams Studios, I returned to Academy of Art University and am now an instructor for Vector Design and Visual Development,” he said.

When asked about his experience at Academy of Art University, Eduardo focused on the international student body. “I feel fortunate in having studied with people from all over the world.  My fellow students have helped me understand and appreciate global culture and values while still being able to study right here in the U.S.,” Pacheco said.

Eduardo’s creativity has allowed him to explore his talent for design and music without any limits.
