Francesco Vitali Presents 48 Go Green 2012 Film Competition48 Go Green is the Ultimate International eco film fest where competitors have 48 hours to create a short film with an ecological theme. Every part of the process is contained in a whirlwind of activity during those 48 hours. The competition is open to all people worldwide. Dates for the two remaining 2012 groups are September 7-9 and September 28-30. The Grand Prize for the leading film is a $10,000 cash prize, and a trip to Hollywood to show your film, and there are many other incentives and prizes to be won. In this exclusive interview, Executive Producer Francesco Vitali talks about 48 Go Green and shares film contest tips.

What would you say are powerful ways to start a story?

Francesco Vitali: Whatever you have to say, it should come from deep inside. That is power. Don't try to show off, but instead be truthful, honest, and genuine.

What are some of the most common mistakes that you see in film and video entries, and what are some key things that contestants can do to avoid these mistakes?

Francesco Vitali: Many directors simply do not direct and do not coach the actors well enough. An actor can be new or experienced, but without a director giving good direction, the acting looks sloppy and amateurish. An amazing film with good cinematography can be ruined by bad acting.

Another thing to remember is that good film is about art. You can have a great film with just two people and a simple setting.  A lot of films are too flashy, with very little plot or substance to them. They lack depth. It is better to focus on your message than all of those extras.

A third mistake to avoid is poor sound quality. If we can't hear your film, then we don't know what happens.

What are some key elements that the 48 Go Green judging panel will be looking for in entries this year?

Francesco Vitali: We look for action, style, sensitivity, and truthfulness. Judges like to see a film that is frank and sensitive. Plastic, fake films detract from the message. A simple film can be the most elegant and show the importance of what you're trying to get across.

Could you tell us about some of the past winners, and key elements that made their films and videos stand out the most?

Francesco Vitali: One that comes to mind is "The Last Animals" from our last competition.  If you watch this film, the reality of the setting is brought through in everything, from the actors' makeup and clothing to the props. Things are filthy, dirty, and that sets the scene.

You don't have to come into the 48 hours of the film unprepared. Get ready for what's about to happen. We tell you the 9 possible themes, so be ready with ideas on how to get props, some thoughts on setting or plot.

What advice would you give to new and experienced film and video makers entering the 48 Go Green film competition for the first time?

Francesco Vitali: Have fun! The most important thing about 48 Go Green is you get a unique chance to make a film of your own. Have fun, and be creative. Cherish every second of these 48 hours.
