(Lake Success, NY)--A new HDTV station only gets one chance to make a great first impression. Thats why Miami-based MegaTV equipped itself with studio and portable HDTV lenses from Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging. The newest addition to the growing Spanish Broadcasting System, the 100 percent HD MegaTV has an ambitious production schedule of 5.5 hours of programming per day. To handle it all, MegaTVs lens choices included four Canon XJ22xs compact studio lenses, two wide-angle HJ11ex4.7B portable EFP lenses, and two telephoto HJ22ex7.6B portable ENG lenses.

Canons lenses are a great addition to our broadcasting equipment and provide us with the image quality needed for our high quality and popular MegaTV content, said Javier Garcia, chief engineer for MegaTV. We have used this equipment to broadcast our very successful Gabriel series and other MegaTV HD content, and the feedback was terrific. Canon has been a great partner for us and has given us the service and support we need to get the most out of their equipment.

MegaTV is a wonderful customer and we are doing everything we can to support their HDTV production needs as they continue to grow, commented Larry Thorpe, national marketing executive, Broadcast and Communications division, Canon U.S.A. We value our relationship with MegaTV, and have made it clear that they can call on Canon for all HD imaging issues that might arise and they can look to us to support their HD production build-out.

With two fully functioning in-house studios producing everything from live news to late-night variety shows and an entertainment news magazine, the consistently high image quality of Canon HDTV lenses help give MegaTV its best on-air look for a wide range of programming.

Both of MegaTVs Canon HJ11ex4.7B HD EFP lenses are mounted on jib cameras for wide-angle overhead shots. The HJ11ex4.7B is Canons widest angle-of-view portable HD production lens, and is capable of more than 91 degrees of horizontal angle of view in the 16:9 image format. This lens was specifically engineered for wide-angle shooting with minimum chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion, exceptional picture sharpness and contrast, while also providing mobile, lightweight operation.

MegaTVs two HJ22ex7.6B HD ENG lenses are used for hand-held applications. The HJ22ex7.6B is Canons highest-quality portable HD telephoto lens, and as with the HJ11ex4.7B and other higher-end Canon portable lenses features Canons exclusive eDrive technology, which enables users to program zoom, focus and other settings for precise, automated repeatability, if desired.

Canons XJ22xs compact HD studio lenses (model XJ122x7.3B IE-D), scaled to provide bona fide box lens performance for portable HD cameras configured for studio use, provide MegaTV with an ideal fit for its new HD studios, Garcia explained. Weighing only 13.4 lbs., the XJ22xs Compact HD studio lens makes a traditional support sled unnecessary and is appropriate for use with a modest size pedestal, sturdy tripod, or robotic mount. Although small in size, the XJ22xs Compact HD studio lens is a high-end optical system squarely based on Canons advanced HD studio lens design principles. The lens features Canons exclusive Digital Servo System, which includes microcomputer compensation of lens-focus breathing (the inadvertent alteration of field-of-view when using the focus control). Other features include an informational display for precise operation of such Canon digital functions as Shuttle Shot (the ability to program repeatable zooms between two pre-set focal lengths), Framing Preset (automatic zooming between two pre-set zoom positions), and Speed Preset (programming a particular zoom speed and repeating it with the press of a button).
