Following its most successful ever Las Vegas NAB Convention during mid April, Polecam is heading west to the Worship Facilities Conference & Expo, WFX California. Open May 13-15 at Long Beach Convention Center, WFX brings together church executives, facilities and technical teams to see the latest products available for this market sector.

Centrepiece of the Polecam exhibit on booth 957 will be the Polecam jib itself in the new church-white cover sleeve, one of five Poledoms introduced at NAB.

"The original idea for Poledom came from discussions with church television management during 2008," explains Greg Salman of Polecam USA. "Their specific challenge was to achieve the versatility of working with Polecam without interrupting the view of the brightly-illuminated environment in which they normally operate. The main Polecam boom is composed of plug-in sections made from high-strength low-weight carbon fiber which, being black, is the preferred option for many studio and public-event television productions. The solution identified for the churches sector was the pull-on sleeve now affectionately referred to as 'Snow White'."

"The US church and worship market is a very large and thoroughly professional one," adds Polecam founder and Managing Director Steffan Hewitt. "It is ideally placed to benefit from the compactness, high mobility and fast-setup/dismantling time made possible by the Polecam system. A white-sleeved Polecam jib enables a single operator to deliver a very wide variety of viewing angles with minimal disruption to a church congregation's overall visibility. This is also a major advantage where more than one camera is being used to cover a church service."

Polecam was established in 1998 by extreme sports cameraman/director Steffan Hewitt. While directing a series of windsurfing kit commercials in Hawaii, he needed to obtain close wide-angle front sequences of a windsurfer in action, shot from a tracking boat or jet ski. Steffan improvised a rig comprising a miniature camera on a carbon-fiber windsurfing mast. Returning to Britain, he developed a lightweight go-anywhere rig with a remote joystick-controlling a high-precision pan and tilt head. Polecam is now supplied in HD and SD versions with a range of additional options including underwater and 3D pan/tilt heads. Polecam Ltd is active globally from its base near Bedford, England.
