(Los Angeles, CA)-- Penteo, LLC, a professional audio technology company, was honored with a prestigious radio broadcast industry award at the 2009 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB09) convention held April 18-23 in Las Vegas. Penteo won RadioWorld newspaper's "Cool Stuff" award for their new Penteo/RTTM stereo-to-5.1 conversion appliance for broadcasters.

The Radio World "Cool Stuff" award-winning products, announced by U.S. Editor-in-Chief Paul J. McLane, were selected by a panel of expert radio broadcast engineers as notable for their design, features, cost efficiency, and performance in serving radio broadcast users.

Introduced at NAB09, the Penteo/RT broadcast appliance converts live stereo broadcasts into 5.1 surround on the fly, giving television and radio broadcasters the ability to automatically send out all their programming as a 5.1 mix simultaneously with their stereo transmission. This new technology allows broadcast networks, TV stations, cable providers, satellite companies, and HD radio stations the ability to offer all their programming, including live events and commercials, in superior-quality surround sound.

"We are very excited and honored to receive this award from Radio World," said John Wheeler, inventor of the Penteo technology. "We have worked hard to develop a system that takes the conversion to 5.1 surround audio quality to the next level, and this award from the professional industry lets us know we're doing it right."

At the core of Penteo/RT is the "Panorama Slicing" algorithm which separates sound more cleanly and discretely than anything else on the market today. "Our own new waveform cross-correlation process essentially reverse-engineers a stereo sound mix," Wheeler said. "After separation, the audio is simply unfolded into the corresponding positions within a 5.1 field. The process is non-destructive and is completely downward-compatible to stereo."

In addition to the Penteo/RT appliance, Penteo offers Penteo UpMasterTM, a complete premium remastering service for film studios, record labels, production companies, and other clients with back catalogs of audio content they wish to convert into 5.1 surround. "In today's market, many of our clients are looking at reviving and re-purposing their own content libraries to save money and generate new revenue streams. Penteo is here to help them to convert their existing stereo libraries into 5.1 surround efficiently and affordably."

The winners of Radio Worlds Cool Stuff Award will be featured in Radio World, which is read by thousands of broadcast professionals in the United States, around the world and online. Only a small number of products were chosen for the Radio World Cool Stuff Awards from among the hundreds, if not thousands, of new products on display at the convention.
