New Jersey is positioning itself as a rising powerhouse in the film and television world as Netflix moves forward with construction of a major new production studio at the historic former Fort Monmouth site in Oceanport and Eatontown. The ambitious multi-phase project—one of the largest entertainment infrastructure investments in state history—is set to transform the former military base into a thriving creative hub, bringing jobs, world-class facilities, and new opportunities for filmmakers across the region.
A Production Powerhouse in the Making
Spanning an initial 29-acre footprint, with larger expansion built into future phases, the Netflix campus is designed to become the company’s flagship East Coast production center. When completed in 2028, the studio will feature 12 state-of-the-art soundstages, a wide network of offices, production support buildings, and dedicated spaces for set construction, props, and post-production work.
The location—once a central part of the Fort Monmouth military installation—will soon pulse with creative energy and serve as a full-scale filmmaking ecosystem capable of supporting Netflix’s largest and most complex productions.
Two Phases, One Vision
Phase 1: Building the Foundation
Currently underway following demolition and site preparation that began in May 2025, the first phase includes:
-
Construction of four large soundstages
-
Conversion of the historic McAfee Center into modern studio offices
-
Development of a warehouse and mill building to support set building and fabrication
This phase lays the groundwork for a fully operational studio environment that will begin turning out productions before the entire campus is complete.
Phase 2: Full Creative Expansion
The second phase will deliver:
-
Eight additional soundstages
-
More studio office and production facilities
-
Infrastructure for visitor attractions such as guided tours and public engagement experiences
While the studio itself will remain closed to the general public during operations, these upcoming visitor features will give fans and aspiring filmmakers a unique window into the production process.
A Massive Economic Boost for New Jersey
Netflix’s investment is more than a physical transformation—it’s an economic catalyst.
-
3,500+ construction jobs will be created during the build-out
-
Approximately 1,400 permanent studio jobs are expected once the facility is operational
-
Billions in economic activity are projected to ripple through the local and state economy
Supported by New Jersey’s competitive tax incentives for film and television production, the project reaffirms the state’s commitment to becoming a premier destination for creative industries.
A Bright Future for Regional Filmmakers
For students, emerging creators, and industry professionals in the Northeast, the new Netflix campus represents unprecedented opportunity. With more productions choosing New Jersey and the broader region, local talent will have increasing access to jobs, internships, workshops, and creative collaborations that previously required a move to Los Angeles or Atlanta.
As Netflix reshapes Fort Monmouth for the next generation, the state’s filmmaking community is poised for tremendous growth—and StudentFilmmakers.com will continue to follow every milestone.
