Hi Friends. I am from India and passionate about films and all its aspects. I love direction and i am interested in all aspects of it be it cinematography, editing, lighting. I have also learned it through seeing others and practicing it. I am determined to make it to Hollywood because i don't want to be part of Bollywood which is in itself an unorganized film industry.

I need some suggestions regarding film schools. Are Australia and New Zealand film schools good place to acquire enough technical knowledge. Please suggest me any other ways that would be helpful for me. Thank you.

Regards,
Tushar Shetty:-D

Film Schools

Hello Tushar Shetty,

If your goal is to make a living in the business in Hollywood, my suggestion is to move to Hollywood and get an entry level job. Your goal would already be accomplished!

Film school is great but it does NOT, in itself, put you a step ahead of anybody else who comes here. Some people go to undergrad, then even get a masters in film, and guess what? They're still essentially competing for the same entry level industry jobs as people who came directly here without film school!

The way to get ahead is to show up, do good work, be trustworthy, and get yourself invited to do more gigs.

As for making your own films, again film school is great for this, but you can do this on your own. And/or take seminars, or on-line courses, or just network with other filmmakers on-line and get support group that way.

Another positive part of going to college and studying film is that the degree could help you find a job-job outside the business to pay your bills, while you create your own films. Not sure if that interests you or not.

But just be careful about thinking film school is what you HAVE to do.

Film school CAN be helpful or could be a big waste of your time and money.

Hope that helps!

Warmly,
Brooks
