  • In The House Blues (Student Short) - 15:00

Hello, my name is Ryan M. Robson, I'm a film student at New Mexico State University in CMI. In no way an attempt to brag or anything, but I recently won 1st Place in the College Category for Summer Shorts for Student Filmmakers Magazine with my short 'Deadbeat Motel', https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IheNUg3ndA&t=3s - that being said, I am a student and as such I am constantly striving to do better.

This December, we just finished another film for our Senior Projects, with a lot of the same people and with myself helming the film. I'm sharing it with you all in hopes for some feedback in terms of how we as students have progressed in the span of a year and how we tackled a different genre, length, and so on. Also, shamelessly for some more exposure for anyone interested in the work being done at CMI in Las Cruces, New Mexico and by us, as I honestly felt that this particular website is meant for someone like myself (Student) to use with discretion.

Please enjoy and any responses or questions are welcome.

Ps. We've also been scouring the net for film festivals and places to submit our new film with very little luck, if anyone knows of any that'd be interested please let us know.

I generally like this and it is def quality. I watched on my Dell monitor with Logitech speakers. The imagery is rich. I like the ideas. A few little things took me off story and I am now thinking that the main issue was done intentionally but still for me it took me out of story. It was the sound. The Music was the dominant emphasized track. When the girl starts talking I am listening and focusing on the music and I didn't catch her first few words. Then the music continues to dominate and I can't hear hear over it but instead hear the music over her and the children as I remember it. I just like to hear rich clear dialog and if the girls voice is intentionally emphasizing timid softness then there should be no music when she is talking. Let her voice be the quite lyric melody of the few notes and words she speaks. This is just my subjective perception and could be my old ears or just my way of thinking so don't take it as a harsh criticism but for me hearing the voices clear and above all is the biggest deal. If it's a music video then of course that does not apply. I like your work very much. Please keep us updated on your projects and your school!
