    How many of you still practise the art of using scale models? Not cgi models.

    I am not using these now but it would depend on what I was shooting. I think you can get a better look using a model with cgi, right?

      That's what I thought too until last week when I did an aeroplane scene with a model boeing.

      I had done the scene first with cgi, which looked okay. Nothing special, nothing too terrible.

      Then I decided to play around with the physical model and created a few shots.

      Some shots worked fantastic, some simply did not work at all.

      Anyway, the physical model shots look something between realistic and beautifully surreal, compared to the cgi which looks, well, cgi.

      Three of the shots ended up in the scene. Have a look, here it is. I think my favorite is either the first or the last one:
