'Quick Change' Lighting: Includes 9 Tips for the Time-Saving Technique
by Paolo Dy
When shooting different scenes in the same general area, do not just think about current setup; also consider how you will light the next scene, and perhaps the scene after that. See if you can position your lights (particularly any huge scaffold-mounted HMIs that you're using) so that there will be the least amount of time and effort needed to move to the next setup. With one pan of a head, your key light for the current setup might be able to serve as the backlight for the next, and so on. [Read article]
"How the Last Shot is Only the Beginning" by John Badham

You need to draw on all the skills, manners, tricks and psychology that you used working with your actor on a set for the post-production process. [Read article]
"Lighting for Film: Keep It Simple"
by Michael Corbett
Andrew Laszlo, ASC was the DP who told me to keep it simple. Don’t use any more lights than you have to. "There Is No Such Thing As Video Lighting" by
M. David Mullen, ASC
Learning to light is one of the biggest challenges for the beginning filmmaker and involves developing three separate skills: (1) the ability to see, to be sensitive to the artistic possibilities of natural light and available artificial illumination; (2) the ability to imagine how lighting can transform a location or set; and (3) the ability to tell a story in images.
